Prom 2012

It is never too early to start thinking about prom.  After all its the biggest dance of the year.  David and I attended the international prom market in Dallas Texas last month and our new gowns will arrive shortly.  If you would like to save some money on your gown be sure to visit our store now for 30% off most of our in stock gowns.  At the market for the 2012 dresses we saw an increase in price or a decrease in quality or wow factor so your best bang for the buck is to buy from our existing selection.  Hurry in today to The Gallery by Lynette

Inexpensive Prom Dresses

Beautiful Prom and Social Occasion for under $200
The past few weeks I have seen an increase of shoppers looking for an inexpensive prom dress.  I watch their faces as they pour through the racks of my designer gowns from Moril Lee, Kiss Kiss and Flirt that are priced from $225 and $400. The old addage that you get what you pay for still holds true.  If you want lots of layers and lots of bling in a great quality construction you aren't going to find it for $100.  However, with a little more than the usual surface shopping you will find that we have some very beautiful options.
Perfect for Cotillion or a Night on the Town only $153 at The Gallery by Lynette
At The Gallery by Lynette our consultants can help you find the perfect dress that looks fabulous on you and help you stay within your budget.  The gowns featured are from our Angelina Faccenda collection available in a bunch of colors and any size.  These also can be worn at a later time as a formal, our design/alteration ladies could shorten for a day dress.

Prom on a Budget

Many, many years ago I was in high school all excited at the prospect of prom.  Since my mother was a dress maker and made prom dresses for many of the local girls, she made mine too. I actually helped.  I remember every detail.  I remember the hot pink under the white semi sheer eyelet with delicate pink rosebuds and green leaves.  The neckline was a scoop and had a rounded collar.  The styles were totally different than now but I was really bummed when just two years later the styles changed from the straight dresses to the ball gowns and have been in style ever since.

I recently read an article in the local newspaper about how to save big on all of the areas of prom.  Most of them had nothing to do with common sense and planning but mostly dwelt on how totally expensive everything is and I really think you will spend more time being a total cheapskate than if you plan ahead and do it right.  More money is saved this way than in trying to do an end run around the right way to do things.  Yes, it is important to be smart about your money but I don't believe it is necessary to whine about how expensive everything is.  Money is a tool that we can put to work for us.
This article also quoted people who said they bought their prom dress for $9-$30 on clearance.  This is probably possible if you cruise the malls looking for one of what we call the LA Junk Formal.  Now before you get all offended you might be interested to know that there are two general sources of manufacturing.  One is off shore which is mostly China in the formal wear industry and the other is factories located within the U.S. Usually Los Angeles.  Over head is much more expensive in the U.S. and so the factory and labor that goes into a dress cannot possibly be comparable. These are produced and sold in large quantities and you will see a full size run all in the same color in the store so shoot that thought if you plan to be the only girl in your dress. The patterning on ready to wear formals is planned to get that baby together as quickly as possible but makes alterations more difficult, the fabric is not the same quality and the dress is not as substantial. Often, the dress has little or no structure or lining and is why many of the schools are requiring straps. The bodice won't stay up. We have tried to carry the ready to wear formals and cannot keep them together long enough to get them out the door.  Our customers expect a better fit and won't accept the problematic dresses.

On the other hand.  At The Gallery by Lynette when we offer prom dresses we actually carry True Prom Dresses.  When we go to market we visit every designer before we start buying.  Our gowns are the very best value for your money. We register your gown to your school dance to avoid duplicates.  Many girls who buy our gowns will sell them later and say that they can get at least 1/2 if not 3/4 of the money they spent back.  Flirt, Paparazzi and Crystal Couture are well known labels and many shoppers nation wide are searching for gowns by style number.  When our proms are so much earlier than nationwide it is not difficult to realize that you could buy your prom dress, wear it, and sell it to another girl for this year's prom.

So you see, you can have your cake and eat it too with a true, high quality and re sellable prom dress from The Gallery by Lynette
.Prom should be a sweet memory of a great day not a stressful game of stretch a dollar beyond reason.
Why not have a great prom for a reasonable price?

Things 18 year olds should learn. Good for the rest of us too!

I found a website loaded with wisdom.  I'll be sharing as time goes by.

#1  "If you are buying something that you will use often and for a long time, never go cheap. You'll end up replacing it sooner or paying more in maintenance costs than if you had spent more on good quality in the beginning. Plus, you'll enjoy the nicer product throughout its lifetime, rather than cringing every time you use something that is falling apart." Source

Miss America Organization

A friend of mine was explaining the Miss America philosophy and I didn't know that:

"MAO is the largest provider of college scholarships for young women in the world! The local prelim sponsors struggle mightily--especially in this economy--for monetary support because each local prelim MUST offer scholarship money to their titleholder. Miss America is not JUST another pretty face. More people need to realize what the MAO is really all about--providing scholarships and opportunity for young women, encouraging community service and charitable works, etc. "
